搜查記：警察異能館 Investigation Chronicles: The Police Expo

當昔日警察署轉化為今日的美術館，這座空間承載的功能與記憶也產生新的提問：「警察」如何被觀看、理解與想像？又如何透過不同時代的視覺文化被塑造？

為了重新思考1925年「臺北州警察衛生博覽會」中展出的〈南無警察大菩薩〉海報背後隱藏的殖民治理結構與技術，本館透過「TAM+偵探事務所 怪奇事件調查委員會」邀請不同領域的調查委員展開跨領域學科的歷史考究。

透過反覆的辯證，我們意識到現今對日治時期警察治理的歷史認識並非單一且穩定的，而是在不同詮釋與敘述之間產生偏差、矛盾、擺盪與斷裂，然而正是在這些對歷史認識的「錯訊」（glitch）與偏差之間，一部持續生成的「搜查記」逐漸浮現。

本展以「搜查記」呈現本館搜查這段歷史的過程，也透過「警察異能館」將日治時期、民國時期的警察職能空間化，從搜查〈南無警察大菩薩〉圖像出發後碰觸到的繁複問題轉化為可見的景觀，深入殖民治理、大眾文化、精神結構乃至藝術、文學、影像、漫畫等各種跨領域文本，試圖理解日治時期警察治理的知識體系被建構、接受，乃至於顛覆的豐富面向。

Following its transformation from a police station into an art museum, the functions and memories embodied by this space raise new questions: How were police officers viewed, understood, and imagined at that time? And how were they shaped through the visual cultures of different eras?

To reexamine the colonial governance structures and techniques underlying the 1925 "Taipei Prefecture Police and Public Health Exposition," the museum organized the "TAM+ Detective Agency: Strange Cases Investigation Committee" lecture series, inviting experts and scholars from various disciplines to explore interdisciplinary historical research.

Through repeated dialectical discourse, the historical understanding of police governance during the Japanese colonial period is not singular or static; rather, it generates deviations, contradictions, oscillations, and ruptures between different interpretations and narratives. Yet it is precisely amidst these "glitches" and deviations in historical understanding that a continuously evolving "Investigation Chronicle" gradually emerge.

The exhibition titled "Investigation Chronicles" presents that process of historical inquiry, while "The Police Expo" spatializes the functions of the police during the Japanese colonial and Republic of China periods. The complex issues encountered upon examining the image of "Namu Police Great Bodhisattva" are transformed into a visible landscape, delving into colonial governance, popular culture, and mental structures, and expanding into various interdisciplinary texts such as art, literature, images and comics. The exhibition aims to comprehend the rich dimensions of how the knowledge system of police governance was constructed, accepted, and ultimately subverted during the Japanese colonial period.

当館は長年にわたり、展覧会を通じて自らの歴史を紐解いてきた。過去には、建築物本体「元台南警察署」や建築家「梅澤捨次郎」を主題とした展覧会を開催したが、今回は「警察」を主題として展開してゆく。昔の警察署が現在の美術館へと変貌を遂げる中で、この空間が担う機能と記憶は新たなる疑問を喚起する。「警察」はどのように見られ、理解され、想像されてきたのか？また、時代ごとの視覚文化を通じて、どのように描かれてきたのか。

1925年「台北州警察衛生博覧会」で展示されたポスター『南無警察大菩薩』の裏に隠された植民地統治の構造と技術を再考するため、当館は「TAM+探偵事務所 怪奇事件調査委員会」シリーズ特別講演会を開いた。異分野の専門家や学者を招き、領域横断的な歴史的的検証を展開してきた。

積み重ねられた議論を通じて、現在における日本統治時代の警察統治に関する歴史認識は、単一かつ安定したものではなく、異なる解釈や叙述の間で偏差、矛盾、ゆらぎ、断絶が生まれ続けていることに気付いた。しかし、まさにこうした歴史認識における「グリッチ（glitch）」や偏差の間に、持続的に創り出される「捜索記」が立ち現れてくるのである。

本展は「捜査記」 で、当館が自身の歴史を「捜査」する過程を提示するとともに、「警察異能館」で日本統治時代および民国時代の警察の職能を空間化することで、 『南無警察大菩薩』の図像を巡る複雑な問題群を可視的な景観へと転化する。植民地統治、大衆文化、精神構造から、さらに芸術・文学・映像・漫画に至るまで、多領域にわたるテキストを深く追及し、日本統治時代の警察統治における知識体系が構築され、受け入れられ、さらには傾覆された豊かな多面性を探求する。
